Clay County Schools is working to resolve ongoing water pressure issues affecting restroom access at Clay County High School, according to a statement Superintendent Philip Dobbins released Monday, October 19.
Fluctuating water pressure in the main building has temporarily prevented some toilets from flushing properly. Custodial staff are monitoring the restrooms and flushing toilets when enough pressure returns. Restrooms remain open throughout the building, with brief closures for cleaning. Students may also use staff and office restrooms for now.
School officials suspect a malfunctioning water pressure regulator is responsible for the problem. A replacement part has been ordered, and there is hope it will arrive and be installed during the upcoming week, depending on delivery and installation arrangements.
Clay County Schools emphasized that students will not be penalized for needing additional time to reach restrooms farther away when closer facilities are temporarily closed. The district thanked students, families and staff for their patience and said additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
