Phyllis Kay (Cogar) Elswick
October 8, 1941 ~ May 12, 2026 (age 84)
Kay Elswick, 84, of Dixie passed away peacefully while surrounded by family at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
The daughter of Dallas and Freda Nichols Cogar, Kay was born October 8, 1941. Kay moved to Dixie as a child and remained there until her death. She graduated from Nicholas County High School in 1960. In October of 1961, she married George Elswick and celebrated 56 anniversaries with him before his death in 2018. She loved to cook and have large family gatherings, work in her flower beds, and enjoy grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kindness and big heart.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Elswick and a sister, Debbie Donahue. She is survived by three sons; Steve (Patty) of Mt. Nebo, Mark (Audrey) of Dixie, and Jeff (Kelly) of Charleton Heights; 12 grandchildren; Morgan, Caleb, Lindsey, Kristen, Jacob, Jonah, Jenna, Abby, Matteo, Chris, J.T. and Taylor. She is also survived by three brothers; Carl (Judy), Doug (Tracy), Randy, and one brother- in law, Jerry Donahue.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 15 at Pennington Smith Funeral Home in Gauley Bridge with Pastor Shane Wynn and family friend Jimmy Garris officiating.
Friends may call from noon until service time on Friday. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor, WV.
